Viognier is a variety of which our Clos Cor Ví winery is a pioneer in its cultivation. The location of our finca, in a valley of the Clariano subzone, enjoys a microclimate and characteristics in the land, which makes it possible to grow with optimal characteristics.

Atypical year for the variety, slightly affected by successive heat waves in July. It was the first white grape to enter the winery, ahead of the Verdil, and was harvested in mid-August. The early harvest and the delay in the beginning of flowering caused by the cold weather in January and February resulted in a less opulent vintage than usual, accentuating the fruit aromas and flavors over the floral ones.
Located in the middle of the "Ramblar" property, Viognier is the most delicate and sensitive variety to climatic changes. The clay soils with 20% of calcareous part gives us an average load of fruit on the vines and an extensive foliage mass giving balance and quality to the production.
The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes, after spending 10 hours in cold storage. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, and then placed in a stainless steel tank for a pre-fermentative maceration of 8 hours.
The wine is then gently pressed, lightly racked and fermented at a controlled temperature.

During 8 months the wine is kept with the lees in suspension, 20% in 225l French oak barrels of 4 uses and in acacia barrels. The rest of the wine remains in stainless steel tanks.
The aging in this case seeks to achieve the maximum natural expression of the variety, with the barrel being a minor complement that only adds some complexity and maturity.
Bright and intense straw yellow color.
Tones of fresh flowers, orange blossom, fruit and stone, balsamic touches and some white pepper. As the wine opens up, aromas of tropical fruit, banana and some mint appear.
Pleasant entry on the palate, progressive volume that reaches its maximum splendor at the end. Marked but pleasant tannin, good structure and finish.
Viognier is still not a widespread varietal, even in the Rhone Valley, its place of origin. It is very delicate and sensitive to vine pests and diseases, so the dry climate of the Mediterranean latitudes favors the good results achieved with its wines.
Their high glycerol content makes them well structured and they have a silky tactile sensation on the palate. With it we make the single varietal Clos Cor Ví Viognier.
